Our Horse of the Year for 2010 has done everything!
He has visited a school and was the “pet me” horse that stood patiently in the trailer when the truck and trailer was in the North Aurora Days Touch-A-Truck event.
He is a twenty-five year old American Saddlebred and his full registered name is Desdemona’s Chance. Chance has been part of our family since he was six.
He has been shown by numerous riders, both saddleseat and western. He has done hundreds of Scout parties, park district classes, camps, North Aurora Days and Halloween With the Horses free rides as well as a zillion tiny tot lessons.
Chance would wear anything, so endless costume classes are in his past (and future) and even more pairs classes, even with his half sister, Sadie, because he was the only one that would tolerate her temper. I’m not sure we could count how many times he was “painted” with the parts of the horse or just for fun at parties
He was in all the drill team rides we have done and a majority of the musical rides over the years.
Wearing a flashing red light on his tail so all the riders could follow, Chance was the brave lead horse on the midnight camp rides.
We can not remember leaving him home from any parades, so we figure he has been in almost 100 parades in the last 15 years.
Chance is truly one of those wonderful horses that come along only rarely in a lifetime. He is also one of those horses that has really never gotten credit for all the things he has done for us, so tonight we want to honor and thank him for everything he has allowed us to do
Thanks, Chance!
