THE EFFECT OF THIS MAJOR PROJECT ON ACCESS TO HUNTOON STABLES

This project covers the portion of Oak Street from Adams Street to Acorn Street (Court) which means it covers most of the length of the street between Route 31 on the east to Randall Road on the west, a stretch of about one mile. For those who are not familiar with our stable – we are directly in the center of this project.

Oak Street will ALWAYS be open the entire length of the project and the village has assured us that our customers and friends will always be able to get to the stable, but there are some constant conditions that everyone should be aware of and some that will change from day to day.

This website will be kept current and updated with information as we receive it from the village. We suggest you check this page regularly for any updates or special conditions.

The purpose of the project is to add a center turn lane the entire length of the area being worked on. The crest of the hill just to the east of our driveway will be lowered by two feet. These two features should make entering and leaving our drive much easier and safer when finished.

From April 14th through the finish of the construction, Oak Street will be one lane only and westbound only. The first half of the project will be to complete the north side of Oak. We are on the north side. During this phase, westbound traffic will use the existing eastbound lane. When the north side is finished, westbound traffic will use the new westbound lanes.

The only times we foresee any major problems getting in or out of our drive would be when they are actually installing the new storm sewer or moving the Nicor gas line or pouring the concrete curbing/driveway apron. Additionally, when they are laying the new asphalt directly at the end of our drive, it will be closed. These were all described to us as brief closures. At these times you should be able to park on ‘Little Oak’, the frontage road just across from the stable, and walk in.

The posted eastbound detour, from the corner of Oak and Randall (1/2 mile west of us) will be to go south on Randall to Airport Road/Ice Cream Drive (Oberwise is on the corner), east on Airport to Rt. 31. Airport Road has traffic signals at both major intersections. If you are coming to the stable from the west, this is probably the best route to take. Then go north on Rt. 31 to Oak and turn left.

If you are leaving the stable and need to go east to get home, ask when you are here and we can give you a quicker way to get back to Rt. 31.

The remainder of this page will list the current schedule of construction as it affects us. Check it regularly to know of any circumstances that might affect your trip.

CURRENT STATUS

August 25 - As of 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 26, 2008, the traffic pattern on Oak Street will change for most of the remainder of the widening project. Travel will continue to be westbound only but will move to the new lane that was just created. Access to our main driveway will also resume at this same time and should remain available thru the remaining project except for one day when they add more asphalt to the lower portion of the drive.

ACCESS TO OAK STREET - Beginning 8/26 you will only be able to get on Oak Street from:

You will no longer be able to access Oak Street from Cherrytree or Willow Way. You must use Rt. 31, Adams or Timber Oaks Drive (all 3 are east of us) and then come west on Oak to our entrance. You will still be able to turn onto Sycamore, either northbound or southbound, to return to the east. Check with us when you leave if you have any questions regarding returning eastbound.
